102 – What about ‘That Child’?

No matter what description you give them, ADD, ADHD, distracted, hyper-active, kinetic, hyper-focused, they can make us crazy. They are experts at pushing our buttons and causing us frustration. We love them because they are our children, and we are suppose to, but sometimes we don’t like them very much. We are ashamed to admit that we don’t know what to do, but we don’t. So what precious face flashes into your mind when you hear the phrase ‘that child’? Come join Rachael as she shares proactive steps you can take to gain a fresh perspective.

105 – Shop Smart to Make More with Less

This workshop is based on the 70 Meals One Trip to the Store cookbook. Is the daily grind of making dinner getting you down? Do you find that you buy a lot of this and that at the grocery store that doesn’t always add up to dinner? Learn how to shop for life, not for the week, and how to tune out all the noise of “buy this” or “buy that”. Kelly Donlea will help you:

  • Learn to make dinner a game that you can win.
  • Learn what are your family’s top 10 ingredients, and how knowing that can save you money and make dinner a snap.
  • Save twice as much on groceries without ever using coupons.
  • Save time in the kitchen and make it a fun place to be.

106 – Intentional Eating

You know you “should” eat healthy, but it’s not always easy. Just being told “eat more vegetables” is not always strong enough to combat the convenience of fast foods. Instead, learn to look at eating healthy as eating intentionally. Give your body a gift and eat as God intended – to nourish. Kelly Donlea will teach you:

  • How you can achieve great taste with healthy ingredients.
  • About Superfoods and how to incorporate them into your family’s diet.
  • To “Let thy food be thy medicine, and let thy medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates.

Exploring our motives, anger, what gossip is {and is not}, people-pleasing–even how we talk to God, KEEP IT SHUT will empower you to discern what to say, how best to say it, & when you’d better just keep your lips zipped! • How to be intentional and careful with your words, preventing regret and wounded relationships.
  • The difference between gossip and properly processing with a trusted friend.
  • A helpful grid for using your digital tongue when you talk online.
  • A practical mental checklist to insure your words are laced with grace.
  • How not to say something permanently painful just because you are temporarily ticked off.

134 – First Love  (Saturday only)

Remember what it was like when you first met Jesus? The peace you felt; the passion you had; the excited willingness to do anything He asked of you? Sometimes when life unfolds, we tend to abandon the fervor we once felt for Christ. Why? What does it mean to “leave your first love?” And more importantly, how can followers of Christ return to it again? These inspiring messages have helped many women to:

  • Meander back down memory lane to reconnect with that “first love” sentiment
  • Recognize the patterns, choices and habits that seek to steal or replace our zeal for God
  • Employ practical and tangible tools for keeping our daily connection with God growing despite our hectic schedule

111 – Lies Our Girls Believe…And the Truth That Will Set Them Free

Your daughters are being lied to. From Photoshopped impossibly perfect images to the pressure to have a boyfriend, today’s little girls face challenges that their mothers did not know until they were in high school. (Consider that in the last ten years, the average age of an eating disorder clinic patient has plummeted from 15 to 10 with the youngest patients being five.) Dannah Gresh has written the book (with Nancy Leigh DeMoss) on Lies Young Women Believe (for teen girls) and is currently penning Lies Little Girls Believe (for mothers of tweens) with an anthem of freedom that every mom needs to pass on to her daughter. In this workshop you will:

  • learn some of the most prevalent lies today’s tween and teen girls face.
  • discover the four step process to identify and dismantle any lies your daughter is facing, and how to replace them with truth.
  • learn the three truths you must tell your daughter about her body that will set her free from the lies of this culture.

112 – Six Ways to Raise Sexually Pure Boys & Girls

God wants your children to live set apart lives marked by his supernatural presence—thriving in life, not just surviving. While the goal is holiness and purity, rules won’t get you there. If you do not have an on-going conversation with the Holy Spirit about raising your children to be set apart in this corrupt culture, you will become a paranoid mother whose legalism does not allow her children to face the giants God means for them to face. In this workshop Dannah Gresh will:

  • review statistical evidence & research on “state of our girls” and the “state of our boys”, pinpointing risk factors to their moral integrity.
  • unveil the Three Phases of Moral Development when humans internalize what values they will believe their whole life so you know when the value-forming conversations matter most. (Hint: All of them begin between the ages of 2 and 12.)
  • equip you with Six Strategies To Live Above the Culture.
  • empower you with Scripture-based prayers for your children.

113 – The Proverbs 31 Guide for Stressed Out, Far-From-Perfect Moms

Do you picture the Proverbs 31 wife as Martha Stewart in robe and veil? Do you wish you could do half of what this superwoman does? Have you given up trying? In this workshop, Sara offers a different perspective based on her year-long experiment studying this biblical woman so many say is our ideal but so many of us feel incapable of becoming. What DOES it look like to follow God in our day-to-day mom and wife life? And is perfection really required? Let Sara help you:

  • Understand the most important lesson we miss when we talk about Proverbs 31 (and it has nothing to do with housework!)
  • Realize the influence God’s placed within you for your family, for better or worse, and learn three ways you can quickly become an influence for good.
  • Know the five warning signs you’re becoming more concerned with Pinterest-Perfect than People-Passionate.
  • Think about God’s call for your life as a wife and mom and develop your own set of Proverbs 31 traits.

If you’re stressed out, worn out or just giving out, come and get your encouragement bucket refilled! God doesn’t ask for our perfection, just our availability.

114 – How Can I Possibly Forgive?

Everyone experiences conflict and disappointment in life. But some hurts are harder to get over than others. Forgiveness isn’t always easy, even when it’s asked for. But refusing to forgive can impact you in ways you might not realize until years of bitterness have developed. In this workshop, Sara will walk you through seven habits of highly resentful people, as well as seven habits of highly forgiving people, and how you can begin a healing conversation with yourself and God to forgive what’s kept you from moving forward once and for all. Let Sara help you:

  • Identify any bad habits you’ve adopted when it comes to forgiving others, and learn the good habits you can apply today.
  • Learn three steps you can use to move past hurt even when the person who caused it is unable or refuses to apologize or admit responsibility.
  • Realize the importance of forgiveness, and what it means in your relationship with God.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of grace and how you can apply it in your day to day relationships, including your family members.

115 – How to Study Your Bible for Busy Moms

The world bids us to keep busy, fill our calendars, sign-up our children for as many activities as possible and stay on the go. The world says this chaotic running around is what the “good moms” do. But the truth is, we need slow moments.

It is in slow moments that God speaks to us through his word and we speak to him in prayer. This is when we step away from all the busyness in order to fellowship with our heavenly Father. This is when we come to his word for the precious purpose of drinking from the living well — Jesus Christ. Join Courtney as she looks at practical ways for busy moms to study the Bible.

116 – Living {Radically} in the Midst of the Mundane

Radical – it’s not just the name of a book, it’s an evangelical trend. A trend that is good. We must be reminded that the Christian life is one of learning to deny ourself, take up the cross daily and follow Jesus. (Luke 9:23)

But it is also a trend that causes a disconnect for some women. How do we do something big, huge and stupendous for God, when we are in the midst of diapers, potty training and teaching the ABC’s?

Let Courtney help you live radically in the midst of the mundane.

Dr. Kathy Koch

Dr. Kathy Koch

They leave her events armed with new beliefs, attitudes, practical tools, and increased hope to build healthy relationships and increase success in family, life, and school. Her website is www.CelebrateKids.com, and her blog is www.DrKathyKoch.com.

117 – Motivation Matters

All children and teens are motivated, but they might not be motivated to learn, obey, and succeed. Are yours sometimes motivated to fail, remain apathetic, or get into trouble? Are they satisfied when you wish they weren’t? The problem isn’t always, “How do I motivate them?” it’s, “How do I redirect their motivation?” Dr. Kathy will help you understand and apply:

  • what motivated children have in common,
  • five things kids need in order to be positively motivated, and
  • changes to make to increase motivational drive for the things you and your children value.

118 – Twelve Genius Qualities to Encourage in Your Children

Every mom thinks their children are geniuses. Right?! Maybe yours really are. Dr. Kathy will share an encouraging list of twelve qualities that classic geniuses of all times share (e.g., Beethoven, Franklin, Edison, Carver). You’ll probably be surprised by what is and isn’t on the list. You’ll learn which of the qualities are strengths for your children and which ones you might want to develop. Dr. Kathy will:

  • define the qualities,
  • explain how they’re shut down so we can avoid doing this, and
  • share at least 6 ways we can encourage these qualities in our children.

119 – Leading and Connecting With Your Kids in a Wireless World

Because of technology, today’s kids could be called the “on-demand generation.” Screens and social media are not only changing our kids expectations, it’s also changing the way our kids develop relationships and the way the brain develops. As parents, we need to understand the changes and learn how to fill the gaps left in the technology wake. In this unique session, Dr. Kathy Koch, author of Screens and Teens and Dr. Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane, co-authors of Growing Up Social, will share their wisdom about being an intentional mom in a digital age. No matter the age of your child, this panel discussion will help you:

  • Equip your child to be relational rich in a digital world.
  • Replace mindless screen time with meaningful family time.
  • Establish simple boundaries that make a huge difference.
  • Prepare your child to succeed down the road in relationships and life.
  • Learn healthy ways to keep kids busy without depending so much on screens.

120 – The Power of Enough

Are you frustrated by your children always asking for more? Do you find yourself yearning for a bigger house or newer car? We live in a culture that presents a false image of what possessions can provide. By understanding the importance of “enough,” we can help lead our families toward financial stability and freedom from the bondage of debt. We can prepare our children to manage any income, once they understand enough.

  • Gain insight into how “The Joneses” are really living.
  • Recognize the power that you have to help your children and yourself become more content.
  • Learn common financial missteps that can take families into financial bondage.
  • Understand the power and pitfalls of allowances.

121 – Regain Your Confidence to Parent

Do you ever feel insecure about potentially “messing up your kids?” Have you heard women lament, “I feel like a bad mom because…” Social media and parenting research overload have shaken the confidence of many moms and has actually led to less effective parenting. Wouldn’t you want to follow a tour guide in a foreign city who was confident about where he was leading you?

  • Learn to recognize the role our culture plays in undermining our confidence.
  • Understand that you were hired for your job by the creator of the universe.
  • Gain insight into separating your child’s behavior from your “Good Mom Score.”
  • Develop a discipline strategy that keeps your authority and strengthens your relationship with your child.

Arlene Pellicane

Arlene Pellicane is a speaker and author of 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife, 31 Days to a Happy Husband and Growing Up Social with co-author Gary Chapman.  She has appeared on the Today Show, Family Life Today, and The 700 Club. 122- How to Become a Happier Wife

Do you believe happiness is a skill you can learn and improve upon? Or is happiness just for the lucky ones who are married to the perfect man? Arlene Pellicane will help you:

  • Put your hope in God, not in your man or marriage.
  • Become more adaptable so that the tiniest irritation doesn’t break you.
  • Learn to respond positively, even when your circumstances scream “nightmare!”
  • Regain purpose and passion so that marriage doesn’t become a dull relationship between two roommates.
  • Find your smile once again.

123 – 31 Days to a Happy Husband

Remember how you used to dote on your husband before you said “I do?” After having children, it’s easy to shift your attention to the kids, leaving hubby on the back burner for a few decades. Yet with a few key adjustments, you can rekindle that flame of first love over and over again. You’ll learn how to:

  • Make your home a haven, not a battle zone or a place of loneliness.
  • Respect your man so he’ll be encouraged to step up and lead.
  • Enjoy sexual intimacy, not just for him, but for you too.
  • Find mutual activities that will make you laugh and have fun again.
  • Become so attractive that your husband will feel like the luckiest man on the planet.

119 – Leading and Connecting With Your Kids in a Wireless World

Because of technology, today’s kids could be called the “on-demand generation.” Screens and social media are not only changing our kids expectations, it’s also changing the way our kids develop relationships and the way the brain develops. This practical workshop will help moms with little ones prepare for this phase and moms with older kids navigate the rough seas as life choices become far more complicated. Whether you’re a parent walking through challenging issues or preparing yourself for what’s to come, you’ll learn to:

  • Resist the urge to let your child’s choices define you.
  • Release your personal fears so that you are not parenting “tied up in knots”.
  • Build an open, trusting relationship with your child.

128 – Pulling Back the Shades

Five years from now, we won’t be talking about Fifty Shades of Grey and “mommy porn.” There will be a new fad in the news. However, the issues raised by Fifty Shades will be alive and well. Women are flocking to erotica because they have needs that are not being addressed by healthy, Christian resources. Whether you loved the FSOG series or you wouldn’t go near it, you need the truth about women and intimacy. In this workshop, we will talk about:

  • Why women are drawn to mommy porn.
  • Why the “red room” may destroy your bedroom.
  • God’s design for intimacy.
  • How to pursue revival in your marriage.

133 – How to Fight For Your Marriage

Did you know that conflict in your marriage doesn’t have to be a bad thing? In fact, couples who never have conflict may be in serious trouble. In this workshop, we will talk about how conflict is not only a necessary evil, but a worthy calling. You will learn to identify different types of marital conflict, learn how to turn a fight into an opportunity to deepen intimacy, how to discern what’s worth fighting for, and how to address those issues that have plagued your marriage for years.

129 – Parenting as a Team

Parenting presents thousands of decisions that you and your husband probably disagree on. From whether to buy organic to how to discipline, it’s difficult to be on the same page. Sometimes you may wonder if life would simply be easier if your husband stayed out of parenting! Or maybe you wonder how to get him involved at all. In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Why two brains are better than one.
  • How to invite your husband into parenting.
  • Choosing your battles.
  • Making someone else the expert.
  • What to do when you can’t agree.

130 – Unglued No More – Improve Your Relationships, Reactions, and Conflict Resolution Skills

Lysa admits that she, like most of us, has experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes a bit unglued. We stuff, we explode, or react somewhere in between. What do we do with these complicated factors in our relationships? Is it really possible to make our reactions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how. Filled with gut-honest personal examples and Biblical teaching, Lysa will help you:

  • Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your important relationships.
  • Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be honest but kind when offended.
  • Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly improve your communication.
  • Respond with no regrets by managing your tendencies to stuff, explode or react somewhere in between.
  • Gain a deep sense of calm by responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.

Glynnis Whitwer

Glynnis is on staff with Proverbs 31 Ministries as Executive Director of Communications. She is the author of I Used To Be So Organized, When Your Child Hurts, and work@home. She is also co-author of Everyday Confetti with Karen Ehman. Glynnis and her husband Tod are raising five young adults in Glendale, Arizona. She blogs regularly at www.GlynnisWhitwer.com.

131 – Dealing with Bullies, Mean Girls and Other Hurtful Things

Every day our children face things that hurt their feelings and shake their confidence: unkind comments, being left out, not making the team or feeling different. What’s a wise, loving mom to do? Hunt down the offender or sit and cry and drink milkshakes? In this workshop, Glynnis, mom of five, offers practical tips to help you:

  • Comfort children in ways that help not hurt.
  • Gain a fresh perspective about the purpose of pain.
  • Increase your child’s confidence to stand up for themselves.
  • Replace fear of the unknown with peace in God’s power.

108 – Everyday Confetti (with Karen Ehman)

Got a calendar packed with reasons to celebrate but a brain that lacks ideas? Special people you want to show love to but limited time to do it? Relax. This workshop has got you covered. Join authors Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer for this idea-packed session as they inspire you to:

  • Implement an organizational plan for the celebrations on your calendar.
  • Discover doable activities and delicious recipes for your get-togethers.
  • Reach out to people in your life while you teach your family to be others-centered.
  • Unearth glimpses of the sacred in even the most ordinary of days.

135 –  Courage in Confidence (Saturday Only)

Do you struggle with your self-worth and confidence? Gain a new perspective on the special and unique person you are. In this workshop, you will:

  • Leave with the tools you need to live a self-assured and confident life.
  • Gain a new lease on life forgiving yourself for past mistakes.
  • Understand the extraordinary person God sees.
  • Achieve a dramatically better life as you learn to see the special person you are.

Panel Discussion — Dr. Kathy Koch, Dr. Gary Chapman, and Arlene Pellicane

  • Equip your child to be relational rich in a digital world
  • Replace mindless screen time with meaningful family time
  • Establish simple boundaries that make a huge difference
  • Prepare your child to succeed down the road in relationships and life
  • Learn healthy ways to keep kids busy without depending so much on screens

As moms, we all know that part of the parenting adventure is adjusting our plans when the unexpected happens, whether it’s a baby’s due date, a death in the family, or the stomach flu! From time to time circumstances may make it impossible for our a scheduled speaker to attend. Should this situation arise, we will do our best to find a similar replacement speaker/workshop. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility!
