Mom, do you know how valuable you are? Do you want to be inspired and encouraged? Are you in need of refreshment or rejuvenation? Do you want to laugh?
A Hearts at Home conference gives moms the unique opportunity to pause along their mothering journey to refresh, refocus, and renew themselves. The 2010 National Conference, Mom’s the Word, is being held at the Bone Student Center of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois on March 12-13.
Although online and phone-in registrations are closed, walk-ins are welcome both days of the conference.

Our favorite money saving grocery tips:
Make a weekly grocery list according to the sales at your favorite store(s) and stick to it. If you shop more than once a week or without a list, you’ll spend more. I used to, and I did.

I've always considered myself a "bargain shopper." When the economy did a nosedive two years ago, I wondered how that would affect us here in taconite country. After a few months of rumored layoffs coming, the Lord prompted me to tighten my belt and prepare for some leaner times.

When I became a stay-at-home mom, I tried to find creative ways to cut back in all areas of our budget. I began looking at each account statement and called each company, asking for suggestions on how I could reduce our monthly bill.

As a one-income family, sometimes it’s hard taking care of my and my kids’ health needs. We all have asthma and allergies and between the three of us we take seven daily prescriptions that have to be refilled monthly or bi-monthly.

In our family’s quest to have more, we’ve started keeping track of every expense we make. We get a receipt for every transaction and record each one in an Excel sheet.

This is an easy-to-throw together warm winter meal that uses ingredients I often have on hand. It can be frozen before baking as well. Serve with a salad and a loaf of bread, and you’ve got a great Italian meal with little effort.
Chicken Tetrazzini
4 oz. spaghetti
2 ½ c. cooked, diced chicken
½ cup finely chopped onion

Winter drags on me here in the Midwest. I’m craving a ray of sunshine to brighten my spirits. But, it isn’t always the weather that’s to blame. Sometimes life as a mom takes a lot out of you. Like the day I helped my daughter compose her first term paper and I felt like I’d walked a mile through quick sand. Or the time my son got a call from the assistant principal and needed a long and uncomfortable talking to from both of us. Or the news that the fees I thought I’d already paid for my college student are now embarrassingly overdue and have increased substantially with a penalty.

Jill Savage and her husband, Mark, will be presenting the workshop, Living with Less So Your Family Has More at the National Conference March 12-13, based on their recently released book by the same name.
Our culture believes that bigger is better, but we have found that being satisfied with less materially can allow us to give our family more—emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.

I consider preparing a meal and sitting down as a family to be of great value. This connects our whole family. To reduce the stress of planning, thinking of what we are going to have and overspending in this area, I develop a two-week meal plan.
